    Local roundup: Casey leads Conn College men to victory

    New London — RJ Casey scored 21 points to lead Connecticut College to an 81-53 win over Colby in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball game on Sunday.

    Cam Schainfeld had 12 points, Elias Espinosa scored 11 and David Murray and Dylan Watson had 10 points each for the Camels (15-5, 5-1). Ben Rice had 10 rebounds and Murray had 12 rebounds. The 15 wins are the most in a season since 2007-08, and the last time the Camels started 5-1 in the NESCAC was 1999-00.

    Women’s basketball

    • Conn College lost to Colby 66-57 in a NESCAC game. Hayle Thompson had 13 points and Catie Donadio and Avery Burns each scored 11 for the Camels (5-14, 0-6) and Donadio had seven rebounds.

    Men’s swimming

    • Conn College beat Division I Holy Cross 151-147. The meet was decided in the final event of the day, with the Camels winning with first- and third-place finishes in the 400 free relay. Justin Finkel, Matthew Morris and Cam Bizjak won to events each for the Camels (7-2). Morris broke Holy Cross pool records in the 100 backstroke (50.73) and 200 backstroke (1:49.95) and Finkel set a pool record in the 50 freestyle (20.97).

    H.S. hockey

    • E.O. Smith scored twice in the final 1:30 to beat the Eastern CT Eagles 4-2 on Saturday. Drew Sager of East Lyme and Nick Rembish of St. Bernard scored goals for the Eagles (3-9-1) and Wyatt Verbridge (Stonington) and Ethan Lovetere (Bacon Academy) had assists.

    Men’s hockey

    • Quinnipiac rallied to beat UConn 4-3 on Saturday night in the final of the CT Ice tournament. Quinnipiac won the tournament for the third straight year. The Bobcats scored the last three goals of the game.

    Zach Tupker’s goal with 28 seconds left in the third period was the game winner. Travis Treloar had a goal and an assist and Mason Marcellus and Victor Czerneckianair also scored for Quinnipiac (17-6-2).

    Harrison Rees, Chase Bradley and Matthew Wood scored goals and Joey Muldowney, Andrew Lucas and Tabor Heaslip had assists for the Huskies (11-12-2).
