    Local roundup: Wheeler tops Griswold in boys’ basketball

    North Stonington — Wheeler used a balanced attack to beat Griswold 58-51 in a boys’ basketball game on Tuesday night.

    Zane Brewer scored 21 points, Deondre Bransford had 20 points and Keith Zardies scored 19 for the Lions (12-4). Kyle Kessler had five assists and four steals, Bransford had seven rebounds and three steals and Brewer and Zardies had five rebounds each.

    Kaiden Kazlauskas had 22 points and Kolby Mills scored 15 for Griswold (10-7).

    In other games:

    • Nick Stavesky scored 32 points to lead Grasso Tech to a 63-54 win over Vinal Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Charis Johnson had 10 points, six steals and six assists, Ryan Gemaly scored 13 and Jerry Santiago had eight rebounds and five steals for the Eagles (9-7).

    • Devan Williams scored 19 points as New London beat Ledyard 75-33. Savahn Warren had 17 points, Da’Shaun Phillips scored 17, Amir Hall had 10 points and Caden Simonds-Gaskins scored nine for the Whalers (14-3). Ledyard is 3-11.

    • Old Lyme beat Westbrook 60-33 in a Shoreline Conference game. Leland Hine had 16 points and Charlie Sahadi scored 15 for the Wildcats (10-5, 9-4).

    • Johnny Kazantzis scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds as Killingly beat Lyman Memorial 64-60. Quin Crowley scored 15 for Killingly (7-9) and Kevin Botticello led Lyman (4-12) with 21 points.

    • Kaiden Kazlauskas had 25 points, eight rebounds and blocked two shots as Griswold beat Bacon Academy 80-60 in an ECC Division III game on Monday night. Kolby Mills had 24 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Sean Garvin scored 12 for the Wolverines (5-1). Troy Johnson had 23 points and Jace King scored 15 for Bacon (5-10, 1-5).

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Lucy Walker had 12 points and 12 rebounds as Waterford beat Montville 49-25. Lily Davis had 12 points, five steals and five assists for the Lancers (7-12). Jada Cheung led Montville (9-9) with 21 points

    • Helena Robinson had 14 points and 10 rebounds as Ledyard beat Stonington 51-45. Cierra Bravar had 14 points and Adrianna Hardison had seven steals for the Colonels (10-7). Rory Risley had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Katelyn Cadmus scored 14 and Leah DePerry had five steals for Stonington (9-8).

    • Grasso Tech beat Vinal Tech 24-12 in a CTC game. Melanie Hernandez scored 14 points for the Eagles (2-13).

    • Autumn Hanks scored a game-high 16 points as Norwich Tech beat Cheney Tech 42-28 in a CTC game. Abby Ulrich had 12 points for the Warriors (6-10). Trinity Hazel led Cheney with 15 points.

    H.S. swimming

    • Gabriel Pacheco and Evan Hespeler won two events each as Fitch/Stonington/St. Bernard/Wheeler beat Waterford/Ledyard 89-72 in a Southern Connecticut Conference Division II meet.

    Pacheco won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.95) and 200 IM (2:14.15) and Hespeler won the 50 freestyle (23.48) and 100 freestyle (51.93) for the Fitch co-op (5-3, 4-2). Alexander Startz and Ethan Jones won events for Waterford/Ledyard (1-7, 1-5).

    • The East Lyme/NFA co-op lost to the Sheehan/Lyman Hall co-op 90-75 in a SCC Division II meet. Mingwen Duan and Albert Zhu won events for the Vikings (1-7, 1-5) as did the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Connor Foerster, Ryan Zhuang, Duan and Eduardo Morcos (3:49.72). Duan won the 100 backstroke (1:03.64) and Zhu won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.70).

    Wrestling

    • Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech beat Bacon Academy 69-12. Calvin Sammarco (120 pounds), Hunter Sanchez (126), Caleb Hoffman (138) and Jason Thoma (190) had pins and Cameron Sammarco (175) also won his match for the Bulldogs (20-3). Gabriel Mahon (157) and Carson Brown (165) had pins for Bacon (6-21).

    • NFA recorded seven pins and beat Waterford 63-15. Landon Herdic (106), Joshua Cuevas (120), Jackson Sorel (126), Edward Lavoie (132), Dugan Marsh (138), Naim Wallace (157) and Logan Jenkins (175) had pins for NFA (22-5). Devon Powers (165) and Braeden Sollima (215) had pins for Waterford (16-10).

    H.S. gymnastics

    • Mary Lord (33.65) and Kylie Nachin (32.3) finished second and third all-around for Stonington in a 131.9-127.85 win Monday over Norwich Free Academy. NFA’s Trinity Ambruso won the all-around with 37.3 points and earned victories in all four disciplines. Ambruso scored an 8.8 to win vault, 9.6 on the uneven bars, 9.7 on the balance beam and 9.2 on floor. Competing as individuals, Fitch’s Kiely Voland (35.0) and Emma Robinson (34.35) finished behind Ambruso in all-around.

    H.S. girls’ hockey

    • Sophia Gouveia (Wheeler) scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season to lift the Woodstock Academy co-op to a 4-1 victory Monday over Greenwich. Juliette Hammer (Ledyard) and Riley Faber (Woodstock) also scored and Mia Williamson (East Lyme) added two assists for the Centaurs (4-14).
