    Local roundup: Verbridge leads Eastern CT Eagles to victory

    North Branford —Wyatt Verbridge of Stonington scored twice as the Eastern CT Eagles beat Hand 5-2 in a nonleague game on Wednesday.

    Gavin Bessenaire of Killingly had a goal and an assist and Drew Sager and Wade Larson of East Lyme had two assists each.

    Bacon Academy’s Ethan LoVetere and Nick Rembish of St. Bernard scored goals, Kaden Casteel of Waterford and Jack Cramer of Stonington had assists and NFA’s Tyler Field picked up the win in the net for the Eagles (5-9-1).

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Mike Timpano scored 23 points to lead East Lyme to a 61-57 win over Waterford. Brendan Osso had 16 points and Jaylen Hannans scored 11 for the Vikings (11-6). Jordi Cassar had 15 points, Juan Morel Jr. scored 13 with seven rebounds and Parker Spencer scored 12 for the Lancers (7-9).

    • Williams School lost to Harvey School 73-26. Henry Champagne had nine points and Jadiel Thomas scored seven for the Blues (4-11).

    • East Lyme beat Windham 59-48 on Tuesday night. Brendan Osso had 16 points and four assists and Oliver Hibbard had 14 points and seven rebouinds for the Vikings (10-6).

    • NFA beat Woodstock Academy 54-47 on Tuesday night. Camron Barboza had 19 points and Keegan Johnston scored 11 for the Wildcats (8-7).

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Angelica Tompkins scored 26 points as St. Bernard beat Old Lyme 61-22 in a nonleague game. Al Hernandez had 12 points, Tompkins had six 3-pointers, Zanfina Gjonbalay had 10 points and Morghan Kuhn scored nine for the Saints (11-7). Old Lyme is 6-11.

    • Serenity Lancaster had 20 points and nine rebounds as New London beat Windham 59-48. Jaidelis Rivera had 12 points, seven assists and six steals, Nyarah Dudley had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals, Ky-Ani Allgood had eight points and 10 rebounds and Marlena Childs had nine points and five rebounds for the Whalers (14-4).

    • Montville beat Wheeler 45-35. Jada Cheung had 29 points and Emily Treat scored eight for the Wolves (10-9). Abby Butremovic had 14 points and Hayden Bresnan scored 12 for Wheeler (3-15).

    • Bacon Academy extended its winning streak to eight with a 55-26 win over Plainfield on Tuesday night. Katelyn Novak had 20 points and Skyelyn Schoen-Rene had 18 points for the Bobcats (14-5), which broke the game open with a 19-1 run.

    Women’s basketball

    • Yasmine Santos had her first career triple-double as she finished with 34 points, 18 rebounds and a career-high 10 steals leading Mitchell College to a 76-44 win over Dean in a GNAC game. Alexia Watson had 15 points and seven rebounds and New London’s Jamya Beddoe scored 13 for the Mariners (4-15, 2-9).

    • Kira Wood and Kelly Hagerty scored 23 points each as Coast Guard beat Clark 82-68 in a NEWMAC game. Wood also became the 11th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Dorothy Stotts had 15 points and Hagerty had 15 rebounds for the Bears (16-6, 5-3).

    Men’s basketball

    • Mitch Shettles had 26 points and 11 rebounds as Coast Guard beat Springfield 76-71 in a NEWMAC game. Declan Rooney had 16 points, Elijah Parent scored 12 and Cameron Brown had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (13-9, 6-7).

    • Mitchell College fell to Dean 104-102 in double overtime in a GNAC game. Jaylyn Clardy and Wilton Causey had 25 points each for the Mariners (7-15, 4-7). Elijah Miller had 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists and Dontae Pollard had 24 points and 11 rebounds for Mitchell.

    H.S. riflery

    • Grasso Tech closed out its regular season with a 897-776 win over Wilcox Tech on Tuesday. Chase Beattie led the Eagles with a score of 188 (out of 200). Also scoring for Grasso (5-1) were Charles Goede (178), Gavin Jameson (178), Logan Gurchik (177) and Aidin Dahl (176), who had a perfect 50 in the prone position. The Eagles will compete in the NRA 3 and 4 Position Sectional Tournaments next week.
