    H.S. roundup: Stonington clinches top seed in ECC Div. II girls’ basketball tournament

    Montville — Stonington clinched the top seed in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II girls’ basketball tournament with a 61-25 win over Montville in an ECC Division III game on Monday.

    Rory Risley had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Katelyn Cadmus scored 22 points for the Bears (13-7, 7-1). Jada Cheung led the Wolves (10-10, 1-7) with 11 points.

    In other games:

    • Serenity Lancaster scored 23 points and had 23 rebounds as New London beat Ledyard 67-36. Jaidelis Rivera and Nyarah Dudley scored 13 points each, Ky-Ani Allgood scored had seven points and 14 rebounds, Kymiyah Willis scored eight and Marlena Childs had four assists for the Whalers (16-4). Maggie Dykes led the Colonels (10-9) with 13 points.

    • Morghan Kuhn scored 13 points and Angelica Tompkins added 10 in St. Bernard’s 54-30 win over Norwich Tech. The Saints improved to 13-7. Lillian Luurtsema had nine points and Autumn Hanks had seven for the Warriors (7-11).

    Boys’ basketball

    • Aaron LoPresto scored 22 points to lead Stonington to a 77-71 win over Waterford. Robbie Scavello had 18 points and Alex DePerry scored 15 for the Bears (14-5). Juan Morel Jr. led the Lancers (8-10) with 23 points and Parker Spencer had 11 points and three steals.

    • Brendan Osso had 15 points and seven rebounds as East Lyme beat Amistad 53-33 in a nonleague game. Nick Petrini had nnie points and 14 rebounds for the Vikings (12-7).

    • Wheeler lost to Somers 38-35 in a nonleague game. Keith Zardies had 13 points and six rebounds, Zane Brewer had 11 points an five rebounds, Deondre Bransford had seven rebounds and Kyle Kessler had five rebounds for the Lions (13-5).

    • Jadiel Thomas scored eight points and Marc Macera had six for the Williams School in a 52-31 loss to Bancroft.

    Gymnastics

    • Capri Sferrazza took first in floor (9.15) and bars (9.40) to lead East Lyme past Old Lyme and Stonington in the ECC. Olivia Gionet won the beam event with a score of 9.4 and finished first in the all-around with 35.65 for the Vikings (7-2, 6-2), who had 139.65 points.

    Fencing

    • Host Waterford won three of the four titles at the inaugural ECC Team Relay tournament on Sunday. The Lancers won the title in girls’ foil, girls’ epee and boys’ epee while NFA won the boys’ foil title.

    Waterford beat East Lyme 45-40 in the girls’ foil final while New London beat Bacon Academy 45-39 in the third-place match. In girls’ epee, Waterford beat Fitch 45-28 in the final and East Lyme beat Ledyard 45-37 for third place.

    The Lancers beat Bacon Academy 45-30 in the boys’ epee final and NFA beat St. Bernard 45-43 for third place. In boys’ foil, NFA beat New London 45-32 in the final and Waterford beat East Lyme 45-27 in the third-place match.
