H.S. tennis: New London boys win their fourth straight
Norwich — The New London boys’ tennis team won its fourth straight match, beating NFA 5-2 on Monday.
Jonathan Silva, Niko Churis and Yamille Gonzalez scored winning points in singles play for the Whalers (4-1) and the duos of Alexander Churis and Jhandel Marichal and Kaleb McCalla and Kevin Tenesaca stayed unbeaten in doubles action.
Simon Chen-Ruan won his match for NFA (0-7).
In other matches:
• Sebastian Fieldsend outlasted Wyatt Hayes at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3), in Ledyard’s 5-2 win over St. Bernard/Wheeler. Malloch Allison won in straight sets at No. 2 for the Colonels (4-2). Zachary Kobyluck won in straight sets at No. 3 for the Saints (2-4).
• Montville swept Killingly, 6-1 and 5-2, in a tennis doubleheader. Danny Zhong, Ryan Yang and Nathan Dhillon each won both of their singles matches for the Wolves (6-1). The doubles duos of Jack Bowman and Ryan Hochdorfer and Adam Gallagher and Brishen Wu also were victorious in both matches.
• East Lyme beat Fitch, 6-1, inn Eastern Connecticut Conference Divison I match to improve to 4-1, 2-1. Jiarui Peng, Ajay Rena, Kenny Zheng and Sid Jain earned singles wins for the Vikings. Nick Sousa and Morgan Fisher won at No. 1 singles for the Falcons (2-3, 0-3).
• Old Lyme suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Valley Regional, 4-3, in the Shoreline Conference. Alis Bicic won at No. 4 singles while doubles duos of Mason Wells and Chris Dagher won in three set, needing an 11-9 tiebreaker to seal the match, and Dylan Paynter and Ryan Olsen also won for the Wildcats (5-1, 5-1).
Girls
• Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 4-3 win over Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Elaina Morosky, Katherine Zhang and Rose Dimmock won their single matches while Aggie and Beatrice Hunt earned a point at No. 1 doubles for the Wildcats (9-0, 9-0).
• New London won three singles matches but fell to Windham/Windham Tech, 4-3, in Division III. Windbery Ledoux, Cashell Jones, and Jayla Taylor posted wins for the Whalers (0-4, 0-2).
• Valentina Schiano, Isabella Villarreal and Avery Rindell posted singles wins as East Lyme (2-2) beat Ledyard, 6-1. Cassie Rice won in three sets at No. 3 singles for Colonels (0-3).
