Ivoryton Playhouse stages ‘On Golden Pond’

Ivoryton Playhouse’s production of “On Golden Pond” has two acting powerhouses leading its cast.

Taking on the role of Norman Thayer, so memorably played in the 1981 film by Henry Fonda, is James Naughton. Naughton has acted in everything from “The Devil Wears Prada” to “The Glass Menagerie” with Joanne Woodward to “Just Like That,” the current “Sex and the City” reboot. He has won two Tony Awards, one for for his work as Billy Flynn in “Chicago” and another for playing a film-noir detective in “City of Angels.”

And becoming the inimitable Ethel Thayer, which Katharine Hepburn put her stamp on in the movie, is Mia Dillon. She’s featured as Margaret’s maternal grandmother in the new big screen version of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” Her other credits including a Tony-nominated turn in “Crimes of the Heart.”

The Ivoryton cast also boasts Stacie Morgain Lewis, Josh Powell, Will Clark, and Sabatino Cruz. Brian Feehan directs.

Ernest Thompson, who wrote “On Golden Pond,” will talk after the May 21 performance at the Ivoryton. He’ll be at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center on May 22 for a Museum Talk about his experiences making the film.
