Interstate 91 in Connecticut closed due to icing

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut State Police say about a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 91 from just north of Hartford to the Massachusetts line is closed in both directions because of icy conditions.

Troopers say the highway was closed at Windsor at about 10 a.m. Monday because of slippery conditions and numerous accidents. State crews are treating the highway with de-icing chemicals.

Snow and freezing rain fell in the region Monday, two days after a blizzard dropped up to three feet of snow in places.

Massachusetts state police said they were closing I-91 southbound in Longmeadow, Mass., at the request of Connecticut officials.

It's not clear when the highway will reopen.
