Local Author Receives Letter of Thanks from President Obama

When a memoir of my experience during and after the Vietnam War was published in May 2014, I never imagined that I would be invited for breakfast at the White House on Memorial Day with President Obama and be able to present him with a copy of my book.

Last week I received a letter of thanks from the President on behalf of him and Mrs. Obama.

"Those Who Remain: Remembrance and Reunion After War," chronicles the experience of losing my husband, Captain David R. Crocker, Jr., in Vietnam and the miraculous effects of meeting, by chance, thirty-five years later, some of the men who served with him. It speaks to the healing power of devotion and memories for survivors of loss. I was happy to be recognized and honored by the President.
