Musical Masterworks presents Beethoven's works for piano and cello

Musical Masterworks is doing something big and bold this weekend. Usually, the acclaimed music series presents the same programs at its Saturday and Sunday concerts. This time around, though, it's going a different and more dramatic route: its musicians are performing the entire cycle of Beethoven's works for piano and cello. That means unique programs on Saturday and Sunday.

The pieces, which include three sets of variations and five sonatas, will be played by cellist (and Musical Masterworks Artistic Director) Edward Arron and pianist Jeewon Park. Musical Masterworks notes that the cycle provides "a fascinating window into the arc of Beethoven's compositional career."

And important information for people considering attending both: if you buy a ticket to one concert for $35, you can buy a ticket to the second one for $17.

Musical Masterworks, 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, First Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Road, Old Lyme; $35, $5 student tickets; people attending both programs can get tickets to the second show for $17 by calling (860) 434-2252.
