    See the light at LAA

    "Sunlit" by Deborah Quinn-Munson

There are far too few paintings of the covers of William Faulkner's books - which is why it's so great that a new show at the Lyme Art Association focuses solely on the first edition cover of "Light in August," which is arguably Faulkner's finest novel. Oh, wait: I misread that! The exhibition is actually called "August Light: A Summer Painting & Sculpture Exhibition." Forget the Faulkner, then. Instead, a much wider spectrum of summer luminescence will be on display through landscapes, still life and figurative scenes by association members. At the same time, a separate juried show called "Pastel Brilliance" goes up, and a joint opening reception takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 in LAA's galleries, 90 Lyme St., Old Lyme. Both run through Sept. 20. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and 1-5 p.m. Sun. (860) 434-7802.
