Nas brings tour to Foxwoods Friday

    Nas (Contributed)

We're a dozen albums into a platinum-spangled career by Nas — including "Illmatic, "God's Son" and "It Was Written" — and he's without question one of the finest hip hop DJs ever. But suddenly life ain't all grand. Nas has lately been the focus of detailed accusations of mental and physical abuse by his ex-wife Nelis — at the height of the #metoo movement — and his brand new, brief-at-seven-tracks, 26-minute CD "Nasir," produced by Kanye West, is getting mediocre reviews.

What does this mean for his Friday concert in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods? Well, Nas is reportedly a temperamental dude. Can the recent negativity hijack his performance, or will he come out determined to use the music to override it all? On the tour so far, "Life's a Bitch," "Nastradamus," "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)" and, yes, "N.Y. State of Mind" indicate a setlist full of hits. It'll be interesting to see how he delivers them.

    Nas, 8 p.m. Friday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $68-$158; 1-800-200-2882.
