Garde welcomes Los Lobos and Funky Feat

    Los Lobos (Mark Zaleski/Ap Photo)

The Garde Arts Center has a cool lineup of musicians coming up this fall (we’re talking Lindsey Buckingham and The Mavericks), and first on that list of great performers will be there Sunday: Los Lobos.

The band may have had its biggest hit with a cover of “La Bamba” for the movie of the same name, but Los Lobos is so much more than that. With their Latin rock, they create a magical mix of genres, melding Tex-Mex, rock, blues, and country into something special.

The group, which formed in 1973, includes David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin. They’ve been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and their songs have been covered by everyone from Elvis Costello to Tom Waits.

Also on the bill at the Garde is Funky Feat, which boasts three original members of Little Feat — Paul Barrere (on guitar and vocals), Fred Tackett (guitar) and Kenny Gradney (bass) — along with Feat drummer Gabe Ford. They’ll bust out all those familiar Feat songs, from “Dixie Chicken” to “Willin’.”

Los Lobos and Funky Feat, 7 p.m. Sunday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $38-$68; (860) 444-7373.
