Steve Martin and Martin Short perform Saturday at Foxwoods
They’re like Cher and Kiss — they just keep touring!
Steve Martin and Martin Short have been taking their act on the road, on and off, for more than three years now. I saw them during the early part of their jaunt, and I can attest that these hilarious performers and longtime pals make for ideal stage partners. Martin is dryly witty, Short is anything-for-a-laugh riotous, and they clearly amuse each other.
The duo is bringing their show — whose title has ranged over time from “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life” to “Now You See Them, Soon You Won't” — to Foxwoods for a performance on Saturday.
Based on past shows, they do a bit of everything. They trade comic insults and culled-from-life stories. They bring out old characters — at least Short does, with the irrepressible Jiminy Glick turning up in semi-puppet form. They get musical. Short will usually trot out a song or two from his Broadway show “Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me”’; and Martin does his bluegrass thing, along with The Steep Canyon Rangers and Jeff Babko. About Martin’s bluegrass musicianship, Short has joked, “Touring with Steve is a lot like the movie ‘Deliverance.’ It’s all fun and games until the banjos come out.”
Steve Martin and Martin Short, 7 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $60-$251; 1-800-200-2882, www.foxwoods.com.
