Weathering controversy, comic Aziz Ansari appears Saturday at Foxwoods

Boy, there's really no way to spin this — other than cautiously.

The comedian/actor/writer/activist — and possible hypocrite — Aziz Ansari performs Saturday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. Long an A-list standup artist with plenty of television credits and co-authorship of a bestselling book on relationships, Ansari is/was also much respected for his outspoken views as a feminist.

A scathing account last year on the Babe website, by an anonymous accuser, of a date with Ansari in which his behavior was apocryphally sexually aggressive and possibly criminal, significantly tarnished the star's reputation. Ansari claimed their sex was consensual.

It's another he said/she said moment in the #MeToo movement and, with estimable fallout, it was a while before the comedian returned to the stage with all new material on his current "Road to Nowhere" tour. Reviews suggest the shows avoid referencing the matter and focus instead on perhaps easy targets like racism, politics and an over-reliance on technology — and that Ansari's bits seem to have a more bitter tone than fans are used to. Is he still funny? You decide.

Aziz Ansari, 8 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods, $39-$99; 1-800-200-2882.
