Mystic Seaport Museum hosts the Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous

There’s just something about antique boats — it’s the incredible workmanship and the sheer beauty of the result.

Those eye-catching vessels will gather this week at Mystic Seaport Museum for the annual Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous. While boat enthusiasts will flock there, it’s an event that can appeal to everyone — sightsee while the captivating creations bob along the museum’s waterfront or watch them parade down the Mystic River during the afternoon.

Organizers expect about 35 vessels, ranging from sailboats to cruisers to runabouts. They each have to have been built in 1976 or earlier. The Boston Whaler will be the featured boat this year.

"The purpose of the Rendezvous is to encourage comradery among classic boat owners, and to recognize effort in the restoration and maintenance of these vessels, as well as to provide an opportunity for owners to display vessels of high quality, design, construction and appearance," according to the Seaport.

Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Mystic Seaport Museum, Route 27, Mystic; museum admission $25.95 adults, $23.95 ages 65 and up, $21.95 ages 13-17, $18.9 ages 4-12, and free for kids 3 and under; (860) 572-0711.
