Kimolee Eryn headlines Hygienic's 'Arm Your Voice' program

Kimolee Eryn headlines Arm Your Voice. (Submitted)

Do you think T.S. Elliot would have written the line "April is the cruelest month" had he known that, in the future, April would actually become National Poetry Month? (Probably. If it didn't work, Ezra Pound could always take it out!)

Well, it IS National Poetry Month, and if you haven't yet heard about the monthly "Arm Your Voice" poetry series at New London's Hygienic Gallery, it's officially time for you to investigate. As curated by Hygienic associate director Juanita Austin, each "Arm Your Voice" program features a renowned and provocative spoken word headliner — along with a separate open mic session and plenty of pre- and post-event discourse and social engagement.

This month's presentation takes place tonight and features Kimolee Eryn, a Hartford-based artist/author/speaker who advocates for mental health, social justice, women's empowerment and more. Eryn's books include "Don't Bite the Apple, Eve" and "Control — Ambitions of a Fighter."

Kimolee Eryn, "Arm Your Voice," 6 tonight, Hygienic Gallery, 79 Bank St., New London; $5; (860) 443-8001.
