    Mystic festival honors firefighters

    An event honoring first responders and celebrating the 85th birthday of the fireboat Fire Fighter happens Saturday at Mystic Seaport Museum.

    Visitors can see emergency response boats and vehicles, and they can watch a Newfoundland rescue demo and water displays by Fire Fighter at 11 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m.

    Fire Fighter is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has served the U.S. in everything from World War II to the rescue of US Airways Flight 1549 passengers during the so-called “Miracle on the Hudson.”

    This day of demonstrations, displays and activities is presented by Mystic Seaport Museum in partnership with Mystic Fire Department and Fireboat Fire Fighter Museum.

    Firefighter Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Mystic Seaport Museum, Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic; Seaport admission $28 adults, $19 ages 4-12, $24 ages 13-17, $26 ages 65 and up; all first responders will get free admission; a suggested donation of $10 will benefit the fireboat Fire Fighter; (860) 572-0711, mysticseaport.org.
