    H.S. soccer: No. 6 Stonington boys rally for 3-1 win over East Lyme

    East Lyme — Sam Montalto scored a pair of second-half goals as No. 6 Stonington rallied for a 3-1 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I boys' soccer victory over East Lyme on Friday afternoon.

    Montalto's first goal broke a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute and he added an insurance goal eight minutes later.

    Will Sawin added a pair of assists for the Bears (5-1, 2-0), including one that led to an own goal that tied the match 10 minutes into the second half.

    The Vikings (4-3, 0-2) had taken a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the match when Riley Walsh converted a direct kick from Jon Zavaleta.

    Connor Piper made nine saves in goal for East Lyme and Nick Cannella stopped four shots for Stonington.

    In other games:

    • Sam Blumberger had a goal and an assist as Bacon Academy handed Griswold its first loss, 2-1. Blumberger scored with 9:46 left in the first half, heading in a cross from Steve Laliberte for the No. 10 Bobcats (4-1). Blumberger then set up Colby Butterfield with the game-winner off a set piece, breaking a 1-1 tied with just 3:46 left in the match. Ryan Claffey made five saves in goal for Bacon. Griswold is 4-1.

    • Tim Lynch scored two goals and Douglas Cardona had a pair of assists to highlight Fitch's 4-1 win over Norwich Free Academy in an ECC Division I match. Sebastian Duffy and Diego Martinez also scored goals for the Falcons (4-2, 1-1). Connor DeVega scored for NFA (3-3, 1-1). 

    • Jeremy Gibbs scored the game's lone goal with 3:44 remaining in the first half as Waterford defeated host Woodstock Academy 1-0 in an ECC Division II match. Matias Arcelus assisted for the Lancers (2-3, 1-1) and goalie Tim Silva made four saves.

    • St. Bernard scored three goals in the first half to defeat Grasso Tech 3-0 in a nonleague match. Corbet Brassaw, Dominic Ranelli and Aiden Jakubielski each had a goal for the Saints (3-1) and goalie Nathaniel Belchik earned the shutout with five saves. Gabriel Dersosiers Berry made 20 saves in goal for the Eagles (1-3-1).

    • Matt Pierce scored all five goals as Wheeler outlasted Putnam 5-3 in an ECC Division IV match. Grant Colsen added two assists for the Lions (3-2, 2-0) while goalies Matthew Ryan and Deondre Bransford combined for four saves.

    Girls

    • Leah Comeroski had a goal and three assists to highlight Lyman Memorial's 4-0 nonleague victory over Windham Tech. Magda Carpenter scored twice for the Bulldogs (5-1-1) while Kasey Cook added a goal, Maddie Archer had an assist and goalie Rayne Bobbi made one save.

    • Hannah Daniewicz scored NFA's lone goal in a 1-1 double overtime goal against Plainfield on Thursday night. The Wildcats are 0-2-3.
