    Local roundup: Ledyard boys beat Bacon to remain unbeaten

    Ledyard - Thomas Whipple and Darnay Gray scored 12 points each as the Ledyard boys' basketball team remained unbeaten with a 71-41 win over Bacon Academy on Thursday night.

    Phyllip Thomas and John Rainey scored 10 points each for Ledyard (4-0), which led 48-19 at halftime, and Connar Chicoski led Bacon (2-2) with a game-high 16 points.

    H.S. girls' basketball

    • Fitch took a 27-10 halftime lead and went on to beat Killingly 52-24. Lexis Foster had 14 points and Sofie Clark scored 11 for Fitch (3-4).

    Women's basketball

    • UConn-Avery Point had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 107-32 loss to 11th-ranked Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick. The Pointers fell to 8-4.

    H.S. swimming

    • Waterford lost to Sacred Heart of Waterbury 91-79 in its season opener Wednesday night. Nik Lehet (50 freestyle) and Ryan Hessling (100 backstroke) each won an event and were part of winning relays teams for the Lancers. Matt Alfultis won the 100 breaststroke and Dan Clark was on two winning relays teams for Waterford.
