    ECC girls' basketball: NFA, New London cruise into Div. I tourney semis

    Norwich — Emily Williams had 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks as top-seeded Norwich Free Academy downed Fitch 61-27 on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls' basketball tournament.

    Hailey Conley scored 19 and Makayala Poirier-Vaughters added 13 rebounds for the Wildcats (17-4), who will play No. 4 Bacon Academy in Saturday’s semifinals at Plainfield (6:30 p.m.) Mackenzie Burke also scored nine for NFA.

    In other games, No. 2 New London defeated No. 7 Ledyard 66-27, No. 3 Waterford beat No. 6 East Lyme 49-41 and No. 4 Bacon topped No. 5 Stonington 68-37. The Whalers and Lancers will meet in Saturday's first semifinal at 4:30.

    NFA took control early by outscoring Fitch 28-13 in the first quarter.

    Nora Ryan scored eight points for the eighth-seeded Falcons (1-20).

    In other games:

    • India Pagan had 17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots in New London's 66-27 win over Ledyard. Jada Lucas added 15 points, four assists and seven steals, Rosie Nicholson 14 points, seven steals and three assists and Xaryia Melendez 12 points for New London (19-2). The Whalers led 18-7 after one quarter. Julia Lavin had nine points for Ledyard (10-11).

    • Bacon Academy began the third quarter with an 18-0 run, 11 by Kellie Nudd, and the Bobcats went on to cruise past Stonington 68-37. Nudd finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for Bacon (16-5) while Jocelyn Luizzi was 9-for-10 from the floor and finished with 19 points. Kate Johnson scored nine for Stonington (13-8) and Cameron Dreher had 10 rebounds.

    Division II tournament

    • Caitlyn Dittman had 27 points and 15 rebounds as second-seeded St. Bernard beat No. 7 Killingly 49-30 in the Division II quarterfinals. Briana Beverly had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Saints (16-5), who will play No. 3 Lyman Memorial in Saturday’s semifinals at noon at Plainfield. Lyman beat No. 6 Plainfield 37-28. Morgan Harriott and Reagan Morin each scored eight for Killingly.

    • In other results, top-seeded Windham beat No. 9 Tourtellotte 71-31 and No. 4 Woodstock Academy ousted No. 5 Griswold 60-27. Windham and Woodstock will meet in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday.
