Directions: From I-95 southbound, take Exit 84 or from northbound, exit 83 (downtown New London) onto Huntington Street, merge onto Eugene O'Neill Drive; left at Tilley Street; right onto Bank Street; left onto Ocean Avenue; follow to end, right onto Neptune Ave to park entrance.
Where to Park: There is a large paved parking lot.
Description: Nature trail is part of the 50-acre beach park. It's a short though pleasant and easy path through dunes and along Alewife Cove to where it meets Long Island Sound. Often used for youth environmental education lessons.
Regulations: No dogs or bicycles.
Amenities: Observation deck looks out over Long Island Sound, mouth of Thames River and Ledge Light. Benches near entrance and along trail. Bathrooms on boardwalk are open during beach season.
Handicapped Accessible: Yes.
Natural Features: Good place to see salt marsh habitat and shore birds.
Fees: Use of nature trail comes with general park admission. During the summer beach season, park admission is $22 on weekends, $17 on weekdays, $6 on weeknights, $10 on pre- and post-season weekends, and $30 on holidays, with season passes available. Off-season admission is free.
Owned by: City of New London. Trail was the project of Save Ocean Beach, the Long Island Sound Fund and Boston Concessions.
