Old Lyme plans informational meeting on status of Sound View improvement project

Old Lyme — The town is planning to hold a public information meeting later this month on its proposal to improve the Sound View Beach area.

The meeting, tentatively scheduled for June 30, is to update residents on planning of the project that includes installing permanent restrooms, sidewalks, a park and nearby road improvements. The town is hoping to break ground in March 2016.

First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Office of Long Island Sound is reviewing the project to make sure a reduction in parking spaces doesn't hinder public access to the beach. Reemsnyder said she explained to the representative from the department, who toured the area on Monday, that there is already sufficient parking spaces, both town-owned and private, at Sound View. Reemsnyder said she also told her about concerns regarding overcrowding in the beach area.

The Sound View Improvement Committee is working on compiling costs for the project.
