Mohegan Sun's slot-machine revenue was up nearly 4 percent last month, while Foxwoods Resort Casino's was down 3 percent, data released Monday shows.

Mohegan Sun reported that it kept nearly $53 million in slots wagers after paying out prizes, about $2 million more than it kept in April 2016, an increase of 3.9 percent. Foxwoods kept $39.4 million last month, a 3.1 percent decline over the $40.7 million it kept the same month the previous year.

"Handle," the total amount of slots wagers, was up at both casinos last month. Gamblers pumped $642.4 million into Mohegan Sun's machines, a 3.6 percent increase over April 16, while Foxwoods' wagers totaled $510.5 million, a 2.9 percent increase.

The casinos forwarded 25 percent of their monthly slots "win" to the state. Mohegan Sun's April payment amounted to $13.2 million. Foxwoods contributed $10.5 million.

The Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes, respective owners of the casinos, have agreed to jointly develop and operate a third Connecticut casino in East Windsor provided the state enacts a law authorizing it. The legislature is considering a bill that would sanction the East Windsor project as well as an alternative measure that would establish a competitive-bidding process that could lead to a third casino in the state.

One — or neither — of the bills could be passed before the legislature adjourns June 7.
