Election Day quiet in Preston
Preston — Election Day passed without fanfare in Preston, where of the 13 races in this year's election only three were contested.
Voter turnout was less than 20 percent, with 557 residents voting.
Republican First Selectman Robert Congdon agreed to stay for another two-year term after no candidates came forward to run. Incumbent Republican Selectman Michael Sinko and Democrat Lynwood Crary also ran unopposed for the Board of Selectmen. Democratic incumbent Cindy Luty and Republican incumbent Charles Raymond and newcomer Republican Edward Gauthier ran for three of the four seats available on the Board of Education.
A two-year vacancy on the Board of Finance was won by Republican Keith Wucik. Republican alternates Merrill Gerber and Jerry Morales won the two seats on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Republican incumbent Gregory Moran won a seat on the Board of Assessment Appeals, to serve through 2021. Because he is serving on the board until 2019, the board will have to appoint someone to fill the vacancy for the remainder of his current term.
