Aug. 18 was Hendel Family Association Day in the City of New London, according to an official proclamation. The proclamation noted that the forebearers of the Hendel family — Philip Jacob, Solomon, Samuel, Richard and Julius Hendel — first settled in New London in the 1890s, “seeking a better life for themselves and their posterity.” Others in the family followed in the 1920s, and “members of the Hendel family have in each generation served the City of New London and its environs through community service, civic leadership, philanthropy, and business investment,” the proclamation stated.

Hendel Family Association Day recognized the contributions of members of the Hendel family to the city for over 100 years.

At the Hendel family reunion, Theodore “Ted” Hendel of Florida was the oldest attendee at 92, while the Levy twins at six weeks old were the youngest. The furthest in attendance were Clifford and Catherine Hendel and Paloma Hendel of Barcelona, Spain, as well as Gordy Tcath from Israel.

Judge Seymour Hendel swore in the new members of the family under oath.
