    Local roundup: UConn baseball team beats St. John's 3-1

    Queens, N.Y. — Issac Feldstein's two-run triple in the sixth inning helped rally UConn to a 3-1 baseball victory over St. John's on Sunday, helping the Huskies win the rubber game of a three-game weekend series with the Red Storm.

    Relievers Ronnie Rossomando, Jacob Wallace and P.J.J Poulin combined to pitch 4.1 scoreless innings for the Huskies (9-7), with Rossomando going 2.1 innings to earn the win and Poulin earned his fifth save with two strikeouts in the ninth.

    UConn is scheduled to play its home opener on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Quinnipiac at J.O. Christian Field.

    In other games:

    • Avery Point split a doubleheader at Anne Arundel Community College (Md.), dropping the opener 4-3 before bouncing back to win the second game 4-2 behind winning pitcher Gary Costello, who allowed just one run over six innings while scattering five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Brayden Cooney had two hits, including an RBI double and single, for the Pointers, while Michael Savino also had a pair of hits. In the opener, Mike Chiorvitti went 2-for-4, includling a solo homer, while Cote Libby went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
