    Local roundup: NFA names Wentworth interim athletic director

    Roy Wentworth was named interim athletic director at Norwich Free Academy on Monday.

    Wentworth, a 1983 NFA graduate, has served as a liaison to the athletic department since the resignation of former athletic director Eric Swallow last September.

    Wentworth wrestled for the late Carl Snitkin before serving as his assistant and eventually replacing Snitkin has NFA's head coach, where he led the Wildcats for 13 years. He currently serves on the CAS-CIAC wrestling committee.

    "I am excited about the opportunity of working at NFA in this capacity," Wentworth said in a school release. "My familiarity with the facilities, administration, coaches, and athletes will go a long way to moving the program forward."

    H.S. hockey

    • The Eastern Connecticut Eagles remained unbeaten in the Nutmeg Hockey Conference with a 4-1 win over Woodstock Academy at Dayton Arena. Kyle Jacobson scored a pair of goals for the Eagles (5-2, 5-0) while Ryan Huta and Evan Tower each had one goal and one assist, Will Cannella had a pair of assists and goalie Rylin Fowler made 22 saves.

    Men's basketball

    • Ghared Boyce and Nick MacDonald scored 20 points apiece as St. Thomas More tolled to a 100-42 win over Montreal Prep. Wayne Bristol added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Chancellors (12-7) while Joel Soriano had 10 rebounds and Brendan McGuire finished with eight assists and eight rebounds.

    Girls' basketball

    • Killingly outlast St. Bernard 46-44, scoring the game-winning basket with four seconds remaining. Amber Caldwell had 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Saints (2-5) while Emily Nelson and Lindsey Clement added 11 points apiece. It was a free throw by Nelson that tied the game at 44-44 late.

    • Geovonna Taitague scored nine points in Norwich Tech's 61-12 nonleague loss to Westbrook. The Warriors are 1-8.

    Boys' basketball

    • Zain Alam scored a game-high 20 points as Williams School defeated Fishers Island 51-38. Grayson Guinan added 14 ponits, including three 3-pointers, while Nick Bonner finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Sterling Frost had five offensive rebounds.
