    Local roundup: Freshmen Money, Perkins seize the day for unbeaten Ledyard softball

    Ledyard — Sam Money was 3-for-3 and with two triples, a double and two RBI for the unbeaten Ledyard High school softball team and fellow freshman Paige Perkins was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple as the Colonels beat St. Bernard 21-1 in five innings.

    Sara Rivers pitched a one-hitter for Ledyard (7-0) and also had two hits and four RBI, while Aaliyah Amidon had two hits and three RBI. St. Bernard is 1-5.

    In other games:

    • Caylee Parker pitched a five-hitter, Jaelynn Potter homered and New London topped Bacon Academy 13-6, taking advantage of 16 walks. Parker struck out six and walked three for the Whalers (7-4), who turned a 6-3-5 double play.

    • Grace Lathrop was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI as Old Lyme topped Morgan 9-1. Victoria Gage was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI and also earned the victory for the Wildcats (6-3), striking out six and walking none. Gage allowed no earned runs. Maddie Cann and Paige Kolesnik each added two hits in the win.

    • Amber Hawkins was 3-for-3 with three RBI, three runs scored and pitched two innings of relief in Norwich Tech's 24-3 victory over Vinal Tech in five innings. Hannah Smith pitched the first three innings, striking out seven and also had three hits, while Makenzie Jones was 2-for-2 with three RBI for Norwich Tech (5-3, 5-0 in the Connecticut Technical Conference).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Cheney Tech 15-12 in a CTC game. Noelani Jackson had two hits and scored three runs for Grasso (0-8, 0-6).

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Sophie Salger finished with eight goals and two assists and Williams topped Chase Collegiate 20-10. Rachel Luxton and Audrey Mattson each added four goals and combined for three assists. Caitlin Kressley had two goals and Maria Angelini made three saves for the Blues.

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Sebastian Marshall scored twice for Williams in a 7-4 loss at Portsmouth Abbey. Robbie Darling had a goal and an assist and Harry Anselmi a goal for the Blues (0-4-1). Portsmouth Abbey led 3-2 at halftime.

    • Matt Violand scored seven goals and Noah Mocksfield had five goals as Bacon beat Ledyard/Griswold 18-2 in an ECC Division II matchup. Ryan Kinney and Cameron Reynolds scored for Ledyard (4-5, 2-3).

    Boys' golf

    • Peter Macadam was the medalist with a 40 as Old Lyme topped Morgan 180-196. Thomas Creagan added a 43 and Connor Maguire a 44 for the Wildcats. Old Lyme beat Haddam-Killingworth 167-204 in a Shoreline Conference match on Tuesday. Corey Drummond and Tom Creagan each shot a 40 for Old Lyme and teammates Peter Macadam (43) and Patrick Flanagan (44) also had strong showings.

    College baseball

    • Six UConn pitchers combined to allow just one run in UConn's 2-1 victory over Rhode Island, including eight shutout innings to close the game. Caleb Wurster pitched three scoreless innings in relief to bridge the gap to Huskies' closer Jake Wallace. Wurster came on with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth, getting a 1-2-3 double play and a fly ball to get out of the inning. Wallace recorded his ninth save, lowering his ERA to 0.39. John Toppa and Kyler Fedko both collected multi-hit efforts in the win.

    • Tanner Fulkerson's two-run homer highighted  a five-run 10th inning that lifted Wesleyan to a 4-1 win over Coast Guard. Coast Guard (15-16) led 4-1 after Reed Jenkins' two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. PJ Gravalec started for Coast Guard and allowed five hits and one earned run over six innings.

    Men's tennis

    • Coast Guard Academy beat Emerson 7-2 to earn the No. 3 seed and a spot in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The Bears finished the regular season 8-7 overall, 4-2 in the NEWMAC and will play second-seeded Babson in the semifinals on May 1.

    Coast Guard swept doubles play, as Tom Hackett and Kyle Fager won 8-7 at No. 1, Chris Lansing and Lucas Arora were 8-3 winners at No. 2 and Arthur Wicke and Ryan Casey won 8-4 at No. 3. The Bears got singles wins from Fager at No. 3, Lansing at No. 4, Arora at No. 5 and Casey at No. 6.

    Women's lacrosse

    • MIT led 11-0 at halftime and beat visiting Coast Guard 16-2 in a NEWMAC game. Etta Davis and Haley McCue scored for Coast Guard (6-10 overall, 3-4 NEWMAC), which has earned a spot in the league tournament for the second straight season. The Bears close the regular season at home Saturday against Wheaton, which will determine their seeding in the tournament.

    Men's lacrosse

    • Connecticut College ended its season with a 13-12 loss to Wesleyan in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Jordan Foster scored five goals and PJ Kelleher had seven assists in their final game for Conn (5-10, 1-9).
