    Local roundup: Ledyard's Crawford finishes fourth in CIAC Decathlon

    Manchester — Ledyard High School senior Adam Crawford finished fourth in the CIAC Decathlon on Wednesday with 5,437 points, including a victory in the javelin at 161 feet, 10 inches.

    The two-day event concluded Wednesday, with Jared Sharp of Suffield winning with 6,027 points. Other top local finishers were Norwich Free Academy's David Osagie, 12th with 5,104 points, and Fitch's Ethan Alves, 19th with 4,804.

    Highlights locally included Crawford finishing third in the 1,500 and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, while Osagie was third in the 110 hurdles and seventh in the discis and Alves was fourth in the pole vault.

    In other CIAC boys' track and field events:

    • Ledyard's Simon Reichert was third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 6:51.57, Fitch's Simon Chidley was 10th in 7:08.70 and Waterford's Sean Corman 11th in 7:09.06. East Hampton's Alexandre McMillian finished first in 6:46.48.

    • East Lyme's Fisher Macklin was 15th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:49.46 and teammate Chris Abbey was 17th in 10:53.56. Hall's Trey Cormier was the champion in 9:44.55.

    NECBL

    • Steven Barmakian (George Washington) was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run as the unbeaten Mystic Schooners scored twice in the bottom of the 11th inning without getting a hit to beat the Valley Blue Sox, 8-7, at Fitch High School.

    David Beam (East Tennessee State) began the Mystic 11th inning at second base per extra-inning rules. Vincent Martin (UMass-Lowell) was hit by a two-out pitch, and Michael Caruso (Fairfield) walked to load the bases. Beam scored the tying run when Will Lucas (Fairfield) walked, and Barmakian followed and was hit by a pitch.

    Barmakian had two hits, three RBI and a run, Shane Kelly (Bryant) hit a two-run home run, and Nolan Kessinger (UMass-Amherst) had two hits, including an RBI double, and scored for the Schooners (6-0).

    Junior Legion

    • Greg Morgan and Ty Chaisson both had RBI during Niantic’s three-run sixth inning, pacing it to a 5-1 win over Ledyard/Pawcatuck. Ethan Vinelli pitched the win for Niantic and Nathan Licitra had two hits. Andrew Blake went 3-for-3 for Ledyard/Pawcatuck.
