    Local roundup: Montville boys tie Lyman on Rose's goal in final minute

    Montville — Jacob Rose's goal in the final minute helped Montville earn a 1-1 tie with Lyman Memorial in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III boys' soccer match on Thursday.

    Aaron Muncaster assisted on the dramatic goal for the Indians (7-3-2, 3-2-2), who have gone 4-0-2 since losing to the Bulldogs 1-0 in Lebanon on Sept. 28.

    Zack Crawford, assisted by Drew Archer, had given Lyman a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

    Lyman outshot Montville 25-5, but goalie Isaiah Gallagher made 14 saves for the Indians.

    In other games:

    • Alex Warmus scored a pair of goals as Ledyard rolled to a 4-0 victory over New London in an ECC Division II match. Nick Washington and Daimon Pollard also scored for the Colonels (9-2, 4-2) while goalie Blake McLeod earned the shutout by making three saves. New London is 0-12, 0-8.

    • Norwich Tech scored three goals in the first half and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Vinal Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Kenny McKenna, Allen Fernandez, Drake Miller and Ben McKenzie each scored a goal for the Warriors (4-5-4) while Zach Lamitie assisted on McKenna's goal.

    Girls' soccer

    • Lexi LaPerle's goal in the second half lifted Ledyard to a 1-0 victory over Bacon Academy. Savannah Wahrer made 15 saves in goal for the Colonels (7-2-1).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Bridget O'Leary had two goals and an assist to highlight Fitch's 5-0 victory over Woodstock Academy in the ECC. Maggie O'Leary, Ashleigh Holmes and Haley Rodgers each added a goal for the Falcons (6-7, 4-5), who avenged a 2-1 loss to the Centaurs earlier in the season, while Michaela Ellis had an assist and goalie Haile Kesterson made two saves.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Montville outlasted Bacon Academy in three competitive sets, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21 in an ECC Division III match. Rori Curran had three kills, two blocks, eight digs and four aces for the Indians (7-7, 2-3) while McKenzie Clark added 11 digs and eight assists, Anna Kreitlow 18 digs and Maya Hillman four digs, five blocks and five kills.

    • Ellington defeated Old Lyme 22-25, 25-13, 25-23 and 25-15 in a non-conference match. Maddie Cann had seven kills for the Wildcats while Chandler Munson added four blocks.

    H.S. cross country

    • Thursday's Eastern Connecticut Conference cross country championships were postponed after heavy overnight rain caused flooding at the Norwich Golf Course. The meet has been rescheduled for Monday at Norwich GC with the girls' race starting at 1 p.m. followed by the boys' race at 1:35 p.m.

    Avery Point Hall of Fame

    • UConn Avery Point is accepting nominations for its next Athletic Hall of Fame induction class, which will be recognized during the 2020-21 academic year. The nomination period runs through Nov. 30, 2019. Eligible student-athletes must have participated for at least one season and have been out of Avery Point for at least five years. An eligible coach must have served for at least five years, while teams can be nominated but must have qualified for a national tournament at minimum. Exemplary contributors who were not coaches or student-athletes may be eligible for consideration as well.     Women’s volleyball

    • Lexi Hubbard had 15 assists and nine digs as Mitchell beat Fisher on Wednesday night, 26-24, 13-25, 25-21, 25-11. Brianna Ley had 14 digs and eight kills for Mitchell (10-9) and Olivia DeLoach had 10 digs and seven kills.
