    Tides take lead in ECML by sweeping Pirates

    Groton – The Tides took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Connecticut Major League by sweeping a doubleheader from the Pirates, 2-0 and 5-3, on Saturday morning at Washington Park.

    In the opener, Tyler Daly pitched six shutout innings to earn the win while Jeremy Sagan pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

    Doug Delacruz and Cam Cariss each doubled for the Tides (10-3-1), who scored both runs in the first.

    Mike Evans had a pair of singles for the Pirates (8-10) while Andrew Fogarty and Tyler Nelli added doubles. Hunter Nadeau pitched well in defeat for the Pirates.

    Brian Mileski pitched six innings to earn the win in the second game for the Tides while Delacruz earned the save and Anthony Stiger was 2-for-3 with a double.

    Nelli was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Pirates while Weston Bruce also doubled.

    The final week of the ECML regular season begins Sunday with three games at Washington Park, a doubleheader between the Knights and Sonics starting at 9 a.m. and a single game between the Tides and Clams at approximately 2:15 p.m. The playoffs are scheduled to start on Thursday.
