Stonington commission approves revisions to Mystic Seaport hotel plan
Mystic — The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a set of revisions to an already approved plan to construct a boutique hotel on the site of the Latitude 41 restaurant, including increasing the number of hotel rooms from 26 to 30.
The plans by Greenwich Hospitality Group and Clearview Investment Management, which initially were approved by the commission in March 2020, call for demolishing the restaurant and constructing a three-story hotel, guest cottage, pool and a 16-seat restaurant. Construction was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Plans now call for demolition to begin this winter with construction beginning in the spring of 2023. The Delmar Hotel will take about a year to complete.
Among the modifications approved Tuesday are the expansion of the building by 216 square feet, which is less than 1% of its square footage, and changes to the hotel terrace and pool area to improve access for pedestrians and people with disabilities.
The developers also are increasing the number of rooms by decreasing the size of other rooms, making minor modifications to the guest cottage, including addition of a vestibule and access for people with disabilities, changing the number and placement of windows and slightly decreasing restaurant and banquet space.
The principal of the Greenwich Hospitality Group, Charles Mallory, is a former member of the Seaport's board of trustees and developed the Stonington Commons project in Stonington Borough.
