Caroling all around at Mystic Seaport's Community Carol Sing

The crowd enthusiastically joins in during the 2014 Community Carol Sing at Mystic Seaport. This year's event begins at 3 p.m. Sunday. (Day file photo)

File this under the category of "aging gracefully": Mystic Seaport's Community Carol Sing is marking its 62nd year.

The ever-popular event will return to the seaport's McGraw Quadrangle on Sunday, and folks who love this musical holiday tradition will once again join together in song. Jamie Spillane, who used to be choral director at Ledyard High School, will be leading the charges here, with back-up from the seaport's carolers and a brass quartet.

And if you need a little pre-caroling inspiration, you can listen to the seaport's carolers give a holiday concert just beforehand, at 2 p.m. in the site's Greenmanville Church.

All day Sunday, you can get free admission to Mystic Seaport with the donation of a canned food item. What you can do when you get in: Visit the planetarium's "The Star of Bethlehem" program. Participate in a holiday craft workshop 2-4 p.m. in the planetarium's lower level. Peruse the exhibits and holiday decorations throughout the village. And go on the seaport's historic ships.

Community Carol Sing, 3 p.m. Sunday, Mystic Seaport, Greenmanville Ave.; free seaport admission 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with the donation of a canned food item; (860) 572-0711.
