'Cyrano' starring Peter Dinklage opens at Goodspeed's Terris Theatre

I have two words for you:

    Peter.

    Dinklage.

The star of “Game of Thrones,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and (my personal fave) “The Station Agent” is starring in a musical that’s in development. It’s a new take on Edmond Rostand’s “Cyrano de Bergerac,” and it’s being staged Friday through Sept. 9 at Goodspeed’s Terris Theatre in Chester.

Writer-director Erica Schmidt directs the piece and adapted it in collaboration with members of the Grammy-winning indie alt band The National. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of the National did the music, and Matt Berninger of The National and Carin Besser did the lyrics.

Schmidt, by the way, is married to Dinklage.

Taking on the Roxanne role here is Haley Bennett, who co-starred in the movies “Girl on the Train” with Emily Blunt and “The Magnificent Seven” with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.

The public is excited about this production. How excited? Goodspeed broke its one-day box-office record by selling about 2,000 tickets to “Cyrano” when they first went on sale. That’s nearly double the old record, for “Camille Claudel.”

    “Cyrano,” The Terris Theatre, 33 North Main St., Chester; opens Fri. and runs through Sept. 9; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wed., 7:30 p.m. Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri., 3 and 8 p.m. Sat., and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sun.; tickets start at $49; (860) 873-8668, goodspeed.org.
