    Edward Joseph (“Ned”) Macomb, Jr., 79, Madison

    Edward Joseph (“Ned”) Macomb, Jr., 79, of Madison, died Sept. 25 at the Hearth at Gardenside in Branford. He was the husband of 57 years to Suk Soon “Jane” Kim. Ned was born on Oct. 16, 1933 in Valley Stream, New York, son of the late Edward Macomb, Sr. and Winifred (Craddock) Macomb. After graduating from the Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering, Ned honed his engineering skills working with several corporations, including Electric Boat (GE) and Western Electric (AT&T).

    Tiring of the defense industry, Ned decided to reapply his engineering skills toward building a better world through better infrastructure.  This led him to many foreign lands, including Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Egypt, and South Korea.  It also provided him the unique opportunity to meet several historical figures, including Eleanor Roosevelt.

    In retirement, Ned became an entertaining storyteller and pursued his endless curiosity for knowledge, cuisine, and culture.  He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

    Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Edward K. Macomb and his wife Rev. Susanna (Stefanachi) Macomb of New York, New York, Van J. Macomb and his wife Carol (Krause) Macomb of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth S. (Macomb) Collins and her husband Ronald Collins of Orleans, Massachusetts. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Julie and Christopher Macomb, Adam Macomb, and Haley and Trevor Collins, and two brothers, Douglas Macomb and his wife Lorraine of South Carolina and Patrick Macomb and his wife Alyson of New York.  He was predeceased by his brother, William Macomb.

    His family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. At the deceased’s request, private burial will take place in the family plot in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York.
