State police have arrested a 32-year-old Rhode Island man in connection with a December 2014 fatal car crash on Route 2 in Ledyard.

Jose Delvalle of 8 River St., Cumberland, R.I., is charged with reckless driving; greater than 85 miles per hour, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

Delvalle was extradited out of Rhode Island and subsequently arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant.

The accident occurred Dec. 7 around 3:40 a.m. in front of a Foxwoods Resort Casino employee parking lot on Route 2 when Cheryl A. Venezia, 31, of Whitman, Mass., traveling westbound on Route 2, attempted to make an improper turn, crossing into the eastbound lane. 

A 2007 Cadillac Escalade driven by Delvalle was traveling westbound directly behind Venezia, and struck the front driver's side of Venezia's 2006 Toyota Corolla. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delvalle had a .138 percent blood alcohol level and tested negative for illicit substances, according to his arrest warrant.

Police were able to obtain surveillance footage from Foxwoods Casino showing Delvalle leaving the casino and getting into his car prior to the collision occurring, according to the warrant.
