Police identify woman found dead at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital

New London — Police have identified a patient who died under suspicious circumstances Tuesday, May 3, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital as 32-year-old Roberta Karr of Norwich, a key witness in a 2014 Norwich murder trial.

Police said at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday they received a report of a suspicious death.

New London patrol officers and detectives responded, as well as investigators from the Office of the State’s Attorney, according to a news release from New London Deputy Chief Peter Reichard.

The cause of death is still under investigation, and the medical examiner’s office is assisting, the release said.

Karr was a key witness in the 2014 trial of Daquan “Q” Holmes.

Holmes was found guilty of murder and attempted murder in the May 21, 2011, shooting death of Johnny Amy.

Holmes and William “Trig” Long had gotten into an argument with Cornelius Wingate outside Chacers bar in Norwich, and Karr and witness Maria Fluker said Long retrieved a Ruger .22 pistol from his apartment and handed it to Holmes.

They said they heard gunfire after Long and Holmes jumped out of the car when they saw Amy and friend Joseph Cadet.
