Pawcatuck man charged with breaking girlfriend's ribs

Stonington — A Pawcatuck man turned himself in last week after police say he stomped on his girlfriend’s chest, breaking several ribs that required surgery to repair.

Geoffry B. Slack, 31, of 71 Mechanic St., Apt. 2, was charged with first-degree assault after police had obtained a warrant for his arrest in connection with a March 28 incident.

Police said they began their investigation after the state Department of Children and Families reported that the woman said she has been assaulted by her boyfriend and father of her children while she was lying on the floor. Police then obtained a warrant for Slack’s arrest and he turned himself in on April 23.

Slack currently is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Corrigan Radgowski Correctional Center in Montville and is slated to next appear May 16 in New London Superior Court.

Court records show Slack also has pending cases out of Groton Town, where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and two counts of assaulting a police officer on March 14, as well as being charged by state police with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving with a suspended license on April 13.
