    Local roundup: Montville baseball edges Griswold in extra innings

    Griswold — Cole Terni pitched a three-hitter over seven innings and Jack Treat closed out the game with a scoreless eighth as the Montville High School baseball team edged Griswold 2-1 Tuesday in extra innings.

    Ryley Beyer was 3-for-4 and drove in both runs for Montville (6-3 overall, 1-1 in Division III of the Eastern Connecticut Conference), including the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.

    Kade Rubino drove in Griswold’s lone run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The Wolverines are 6-3 overall, 2-1 in the division.

    In other games:

    • Alex Dreyfus had three hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning, as East Lyme edged Fitch 4-3 in ECC Division I. Jack Hayes also had two hits for the Vikings (4-3, 3-1) and Aidan Cochrane and Liam Joyce combined to scatter seven hits in the victory. Griffin Pollard and Donte Valentine had two hits each for Fitch (3-5, 0-3).

    • Mason Pingree retired the final six batters, striking out the side in the sixth, to finish with a complete game in Bacon Academy’s 6-3 victory over Stonington in ECC Division III. Pingree allowed six hits, striking out seven and walking one, and also had three hits for the Bobcats (5-2, 2-1). Dylan Cimini struck out 11 for Stonington (5-4, 2-2) and Cam Ogden hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

    • Dom Pontbriant and Jared Russo combined to pitch a five-inning perfect game in Lyman Memorial’s 20-0 victory over Windham in ECC Division IV. Isaac Cone finished with three hits, three runs and three RBI for Lyman (6-2, 3-0) and Aiden Zimnoch and Russo had two hits each.

    • Norwich Free Academy broke open a tie game with nine runs in the fifth inning, capped by a two-run single from Logan Deshefy, in a 12-3 victory over New London. Maximo Sanchez had three hits for NFA (6-3) and Brayden Canny and Randy Jimenez each pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Eddie Torres had two hits and Lou Anaya doubled for New London (1-6).

    • Jeff Duerr had a single and an RBI for Ledyard in a 13-3 loss to Killingly in ECC Division II. Michael Fabiano Jr. went 2-for-2 and pitched three innings for Killingly. Ledyard is 1-9 overall, 0-3 in the division.

    • Korbin Anderson was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI as Wheeler beat Killingly 4-3 on Monday night at Dodd Stadium. Bradin Anderson got the win for the Lions (5-1) and doubled and drove in a run.

    H.S. softball

    • Emma Bayor pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking three, as Old Lyme blanked New London 15-0. Grace Osbourne was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI for Old Lyme (6-1) and Bayor, Sybil Neary and Anna Eichholz each went 2-for-3.

    • Autumn Hanks was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Maya Stimson was the winning pitcher and added two hits and two runs scored in Norwich Tech’s 16-2 victory, six-inning victory over Ellis Tech. Diana Kozerefski added two hits and three RBI for Norwich Tech (3-6) and Morgan Cook had a hit and scored four times.

    • Abby Robinson pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out 11, and Grace DuBrava added a two-run triple and scored on an error as East Lyme defeated Fitch 3-0 Monday in ECC Division I play. East Lyme (4-4 overall, 2-3 in the division) scored all three runs in the third inning. Hailey Merrill struck out seven and walked five for Fitch (3-3, 1-2).

    • NFA lost to Coventry 7-1 on Monday. Melina Graziano singled, doubled and drove in a run for NFA (4-4).

    H.S. boys’ golf

    • Keiran Boscoe fired a 41 to lead Wheeler to a 7-0 sweep of Tourtellotte in an ECC Division IV match at Stonington Country Club. Jaxon Davis contributed a 42 for the Lions (4-0 overall, 1-0 Division IV).

    • Griswold’s Gennaro Lavado was the medalist with a 41 and the Wolverines defeated Montville 6-1 at Norwich Golf Course. Cooper Wilson added a 42 for Griswold (3-0, 2-0 ECC Division III). Ben Godburn shot a 43 to lead Montville (2-1, 1-1).

    • Killingly blanked Stonington 7-0 in an ECC Division II match at Stonington Country Club. Ethan Torres had a 43 to lead Stonington (1-3, 0-1).

    • Elliot Dunn-Sims shot a 48 to lead Old Lyme in a 181-206 loss to East Hampton at Black Hall Club. Manu Geronimo added a 50 for the Wildcats (0-5, 0-4 Shoreline Conference).

    H.S. girls’ golf

    • Morgan Dube earned medalist honors with a 56 and East Lyme defeated Woodstock Academy 248-259 at Old Lyme Country Club. Mia Williamson added a 58 for East Lyme (3-1 overall and in the ECC).

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Stonington remained unbeaten with a 6-1 victory over Hand, including two victories decided in tiebreakers. Tucker Callahan, Brady O’Neil, Matt Turrisi and Peter Schoenecker won singles matches for the Bears (7-0), with Schoenecker winning 6-4, 4-6 (10-4) at No. 4 singles. The Bears also got wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Chase Donnarummo and Sam Lund and the No. 3 team of Henry Swain and Ben Mahoney. Sawin and Mahoney won 6-4, 2-6 (10-5).

    • Christos Matsas, Ian Balfour, Quinn LeBelle and Colton Murch won singles matches as Waterford defeated St. Bernard/Wheeler 7-0. The Lancers (4-1) also earned a sweep in doubles, led by Louis Dhervilly and Adam Balfour in the No. 1 slot. St. Bernard/Wheeler is 2-5.

    H.S. girls’ tennis

    • Claire Fenaughty, Sarah Banach, Cassie Rice and Rachel Kulterman won singles matches for Ledyard in a 5-2 victory over Killingly in ECC Division II. Marissa DePaul and Anna Maynard won their third doubles match in a tiebreaker for the Colonels (1-3, 1-0).

    • Valentina Schiano, Isabella Villarreal, Avni Kabra and Avery Rindell won singles matches for East Lyme in a 7-0 victory over Montville. Veronica Castro and Jessica Feng won their match at No. 1 doubles for the Vikings (3-2) and the teams of Erin Tjardes-Peini Lin and Ruby Thoms-Annie Rossi also picked up victories. Montville is 2-3.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Norwich Tech beat Putnam 3-1 in a CVL game on Monday. Bradley Martell had 11 kills and nine digs, Emerson Avery had 11 assists, 10 digs, three kills and three aces and Mason Matthews had 16 digs and six kills for the Warriors (4-5, 4-4), who won 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19.

    College baseball

    • Cole Lalli and Jack Hayes had three hits apiece for Mitchell College in a 13-1 win over Rivier University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. It was the eighth straight win for the Mariners (25-8, 12-0). Lalli added three RBI, while Hayes drove in one and scored twice. Michael Ficocelli finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored and Michael Gajda belted his third home run of the season, a three-run shot to deep left-center in the fifth inning.
