Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han in concert
It's interesting how, when idle speculation turns - as it frequently does - to "power couples," Rutherford B. Hayes (19th U.S. President) and his wife Lucy Hayes (noted abolitionist) are consistently the first names that spring to mind.
Distant runners-up would include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, Gregg Allman and Cher, the Clintons, and of course Ashton Kutcher and, uhm, whatsername.
In classical music, though, one of the premiere power couples is cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han. This husband/wife team are the artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center and also launched ArtistLed, the first Internet-based classical music recording company helmed by musicians.
They're also virtuoso artists of great global renown.
Fortuitously, Finckel and Han perform together Friday in Connecticut College's Evans Hall. The program is called "Russian Reflections" and will feature sonatas by Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff.
