Seek the Greek: St. Sophia offers food fest

Servers dish up deliciousness at a past Greek Food Festival at the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church in New London. The festival runs Wednesday through June 5.

You know what would have made this past February bearable?

If St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church had held a winter food festival.

I would have driven through snow drifts or hooked my dog up to an Iditarod sled in order to get to St. Sophia’s in New London to nab some of their wonderfully tasty moussaka or gyros or spanakopeta. I would have stocked up on the mouthwatering dishes, so I would have had plenty of comfort food when I was stuck at home during the next weekend’s blizzard. Because there was always a next weekend’s blizzard.

    Here’s the doubly good news:

    1. Good weather is here!

    2. St. Sophia’s Spring Food Festival is here!

Yes, it’s time for dolmathes and pastichio and all the rest of the storied offerings, from Wednesday, June 3, to Friday, June 5. Prices range from $2.50 for Greek-style potatoes to $17 for the lamb shanks dinner.
