Tanglewood Marionettes perform in East Lyme

Tanglewood Marionettes in "An Arabian Adventure" (Submitted)

The Massachusetts-based Tanglewood Marionettes is bringing another show here, as part of East Lyme Puppetry Project’s presentations.

The group will perform “An Arabian Adventure” during a Sunday matinee at the East Lyme Community Center.

Dick Waterman, who is president of East Lyme Puppetry Project Inc., said in a statement, “This year’s show has it all — comedy, drama, a swashbuckling tale set in an ancient and far off land — and a love story! We’re thrilled to have Ann (Ware) and Peter (Shafer) back for a fourth year of storytelling using their exquisite ‘grand scale storybook’ style.”

The 45-minute production will boast more than a dozen handcrafted marionettes, a soundtrack featuring folk and classical music, stage illusions and lighting effects.

There will be a demonstration before the show and a “meet the marionettes” session after.

East Lyme Puppetry Project is a nonprofit educational organization whose purpose is to promote cultural literacy and to bring more of the arts to southeastern Connecticut.

Sunday’s performance is also helping to restock the shelves at Care and Share, which provides food, financial and emergency support to individuals and families in East Lyme and Salem. Tickets are $6, plus a canned good or cast contribution to Care and Share.
