    Mohegan Sun welcomes 2Cellos

Say what you will about the internet, but, boy, has it given some musicians thriving careers, from Justin Bieber to Straight No Chaser to Shawn Mendes.

    Add 2Cellos to that list.

The duo of Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser met as teens in a class in Croatia and, later on, were thinking of heading in a fairly traditional, classical direction.

But, just for fun, they collaborated on a cello-based version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” did a video in 2011 of that perforamnce and posted it on YouTube. It blew up online, and the two cellists wisely turned their attention to more pop songs. They released their first CD on Sony Masterworks. It was a hit, and 2Cellos grew into an arena act.

Which brings us to where they’ll be this week: performing Friday in Mohegan Sun’s Arena.

Last year, they released their fifth CD, “Let There Be Cellos,” and this time, they turned their cellos loose on such songs as “Seven Nation Army” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

    2Cellos, 8 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; with Jon McLaughlin; $39-$69; 1-800-745-3000.
