I wish to express my thanks to Dick Ahles, and your newspaper, for his thoughtful piece on the first flight discussion, “Connecticut shouldn’t ignore history’s clear verdict,” (June 28). As a great grandniece of Orville and Wilbur Wright, it has been very hard to sit on my hands and button my lip. I don't believe this is a controversy of Wrights vs. Whitehead. Uncle Orv's and Uncle Will's work is so well documented, the "interested" can truly understand what they achieved, and how they achieved it.
The question for history is what did Mr. Whitehead achieve/accomplish? And even in understanding his story, it is not necessary to "tear down" the work of the Wrights.
Please give Mr. Ahles my gratitude.
