NL Community Orchestra offers MLK Day concert
Everyone honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., Day can top off the events with a concert Monday night at the Garde Arts Center.
This free show by the New London Community Orchestra consists of three parts: works by historic and contemporary Black composers; a performance by area jazz musicians; and a presenting of civil rights anthems, featuring vocalists.
Composer and NLCO officer Kirk Edwards will debut the orchestral version of his “Martin Luther King March,” which he originally composed for the Coast Guard Band.
He’ll also debut his orchestra arrangement of “Life Every Voice and Sing,” which will boast vocals by singer Katim Brown.
The night ends with sing-alongs with the audience on “We Shall Overcome” and “Amazing Grace.”
