The Coast Guard Band kicks off its concert season

One great thing about fall is that all manners of arts organizations unveil new seasonal programs. Of course, that also means that, suddenly, we're overwhelmed with possible activities. How to decide what to do?

A certainty: folks can't go wrong with the United States Coast Guard Band under the direction of Lieutenant Commander Adam Williamson. They kick off their 2014-15 campaign Sunday with a matinee concert in Leamy Concert Hall on the campus of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London.

The performance includes Jess Turner's humorous "Black Bolt"; Launy Grøndahl's Trombone Concerto featuring Senior Chief Musician Vince Yanovich; a rendition of "Valse de la poupée," from Delibes' opera Coppelia, by Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget; and Ingolf Dahl's "Sinfonietta."
