When it rains Luke Combs, it pours

Here’s my entry in the “Luke Combs Run-On Sentence” contest. Wish me luck:

With his “guy who can’t wait for quail season to start and until then changes the oil in John Deeres” looks, and a batch of catchy songs that appeal to guys who can’t wait for quail season and in the meantime change tractor oil for a living, Luke Combs seems genetically and ideally engineered at the Who’s The Next Chris Stapleton? factory.

    Sorta flows, doesn’t it?

Combs indeed fits into the mold of Stapleton and Eric Church, but he’s listened to plenty of Garth Brooks and John Anderson on the jukebox, and has more than enough creative juice to forge his own identity. Indeed, he’s become a top country music star for all the right reasons. (If Combs never writes another song, his “When It Rains It Pours” video will always crack me up.)

See Combs Friday and/or Saturday when he and his 304 hits headline the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Luke Combs with Jordan Davis and Lainey Wilson, 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $25-$85; www.mohegansun.com.
