    Groton Town Police report two fatal overdoses within 12 hours

    Groton — Town Police said a 47-year-old woman died this morning of a suspected opiate overdose.

    It was the second fatal overdose to occur within 12 hours in the town.

    Emergency responders were dispatched about 9 a.m. to an address in Noank for an unresponsive female, according to detective Lt. John W. Varone. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

    "There are indicators it was an opiate overdose," Varone said.

    On Tuesday, a 25-year-old man was found unresponsive in his vehicle around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 12 and Crystal Lake Road, also from a suspected opiate overdose, police said. First responders administered Narcan and other life-saving measures to to the man before he was transported him to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    Officers and detectives from the Groton Town Police Department and the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force are investigating the deaths. Police are asking anyone with information to call them at (860) 441-6712.
